The Copper Signature Ligature was conceived by combining the superb performance of the Signature ligature, Gottsu’s hammered ligature design, and the material Copper.  A solid Copper band, carefully hammered to the correct size and shape, is accompanied by Gottsu’s revolutionary ligature system, which features a unique pressure plate mechanism that securely and evenly exerts pressure across the reed. The Signature ligature design significantly exceeds the performance of a conventional ligature. The Copper band darkens the tone and provides an excellent responsiveness that surpasses what can be achieved with vintage brass.  Originally, the ligature was designed to be all-copper, but testing proved that a vintage brass screw and plate mechanism increases functionality and adds complex overtones.

One unique and fascinating quality of copper is how quickly and extensively it tarnishes.  Under the right conditions and with enough time, the freshly-polished pink color will soon become reddish-orange, then brown, and eventually even a bluish-green.  You may choose whether to regularly polish it to maintain its shiny pink color or to simply enjoy the natural aging over time.
